2019 BMW X5 M spied

Big SUV muscles up in M guise

The next-generation BMW X5 M has been spied, showing off a mean stance and aggressive face under its camouflage.

How do we know it's an M car? To start with, the bumper is home to some serious-looking air intakes down low, although BMW has tried to hide them behind zebra-coloured cladding.

The car rides on sporty-looking alloy wheels, with big brake discs and blue calipers lurking behind them. There's no hiding the quad pipes, either – they're a staple of BMW M cars, and a clear indicator about the potential lurking within.

Under the skin, the fresh X5 M will ride on the same CLAR platform as the current 5 Series, 7 Series and Rolls-Royce Phantom. That new platform should make for a lighter, sportier SUV than before.

Power is likely to come from a version of the 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 engine featuring in the current M5. It makes a whopping 441kW and 750Nm in that guise, and it wouldn't be a stretch to expect similar figures from Munich's uber-SUV.

The 2019 X5 M is expected to be revealed late this year, or early next year. Stay tuned to CarAdvice for all the latest.
