2019 Kia Carnival revealed

Facelifted MPV due here later this year

The upgraded 2019 Kia Sedona – known here as the Carnival – has been revealed this week at the New York motor show, ahead of an Australian launch later this year.

Along with minor exterior and interior design changes, the facelifted people mover gets a new eight-speed automatic transmission and a new rear-seat entertainment system.

In terms of the exterior, the Carnival/Sedona gets a revised face with new LED headlights and 'ice cube' LED fog-lights – reserved for higher-spec models, naturally – along with a revised grille that sports a new mesh-like pattern.

At the rear, the tail-lights get new signature graphics, while the chrome trim on the tailgate has also been revised. New 17-, 18- and 19-inch alloy wheel designs fill the arches, too.

Models equipped with power-sliding rear doors now get buttons on the door handles for added convenience.

Inside, the driver's instrument cluster features new graphics, while the centre fascia has been revised to be "more modern". Wireless phone charging debuts on select variants in the floor console, along with a new sunglasses holder.

Second-row occupants now have the option of a new rear-seat infotainment system with dual 10.1-inch touchscreens mounted on the seat backs – replacing the outgoing model's roof-mounted single screen setup.

Both displays feature smartphone mirroring compatibility (Apple CarPlay and Android Auto) and can also connect to the internet via a smart device as well. Each screen comes with its own pair of bluetooth wireless headphones.

Finally, the previous car's Infinity sound system has been swapped for an available eight-speaker Harman Kardon premium sound system.

In the US, the new Carnival adds driver attention warning to its list of active safety features – which already includes autonomous emergency braking with forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control with stop/go function, rear cross-traffic alert, and blind-spot monitoring.

Finally, the American model's 3.3-litre V6 petrol engine is now mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, replacing the outgoing version's six-speeder. The new shifter is claimed to offer a "more seamless driving experience" while also improving fuel economy,

Outputs remain the same, though, meaning the V6 produces 276hp (206kW) of power and 336Nm of torque.

Australia

While Kia's local division has confirmed an updated Carnival will be arriving later this year, it hasn't detailed exactly what to expect for Australian-bound versions of the revised people mover range.
