2018 KTM X-Bow GT arrives Down Under

Everyday track special priced from $189,990

The KTM X-Bow GT has touched down in Australia, complete with a wraparound windscreen for (slightly) more refined racing thrills on the road.

Imported to the country by Simply Sports Cars, the X-Bow GT(pronounced crossbow) will be priced from $189,990 before on-road costs. That's $20,000 more expensive than the X-Bow R, which arrived last year.

Compared to the hardcore R, the GT adds a frameless windscreen to the mix, creating what KTM describes as "a flowing transition between outside and inside".

Behind the wheel, the centre console has been completely revamped for the GT, which means there's a fresh layour for the wipers and HVAC controls. Both driver and passenger sit in Recaro bucket seats, designed to be accomodating for bigger-bodied track enthusiasts.

Coupled with a sliding pedal box and a reach and tilt-adjustable steering wheel, that should make for a relatively comfortable place to spend time. Then again, those four-point racing harnesses are likely to make the McDonald's drive through very, very tricky.

Power comes from a reworked Audi-sourced 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine making 213kW and 420Nm, put to the rear wheels through a six-speed short shifter. There's a mechanical limited-slip differential to help put the power down, while the sophisticated pushrod suspension system is fully adjustable based on what driving you're doing.

Combined with a three-piece, flat underbody and race-inspired aerodynamics package, the car is capable of pulling 2.0G in the corners – dependent on tyres, naturally.

"I’m delighted to see the X-BOW GT also now registerable in Australia. It’s the ‘everyday’ version of an X-BOW with its amazing windscreen design protecting you from the elements in what is basically an open wheel sports car," said Lee Knappett, Simply Sports Cars CEO.

"In a world where cars are getting faster, bigger, [and] more technology laden, the X-BOW GT remains focused, pure and simple – its about driving, its very raw and it’s fun at 60km/h or 160km/h."

The car will be available for sale through Simply Sports Cars in Melbourne and Sydney.
