Nissan: 1 million annual electrified sales by FY2022

More advanced autonomous tech, connected services also coming

Nissan has announced its plan to sell 1 million electrified vehicles per annum by the end of financial year 2022, as part of its M.O.V.E to 2022 product plan.

The company will develop eight new electric vehicles in the next four years, including a crossover inspired by the IMx concept, and a kei car specifically for the Japanese market.

According to the plan, all Infiniti models unveiled from 2021 will be electrified. It also calls for 20 models in 20 markets with autonomous technology – ProPilot in Nissan parlance – and an "electric car offensive" in China. That offensive will start with a Leaf-based 'C-segment' car this year.

An affordable EV will be developed through the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance's tie-up with Dongfeng Automotive, as part of the eGT New Energy Automotive venture.

e-Power hybrid technology, currently offered on the Note and Serena in Japan, will be rolled out across the wider range, as reported in CarAdvice earlier this year.

By the end of its program, Nissan expects electrified vehicles to account for 40 per cent of sales in Japan and Europe, before pushing 50 per cent by 2025. In the USA, the expectation is 20-30 per cent by 2025, while it's 35-40 per cent by the same mark for China.

Looking forward to 2025, Nissan expects 50 per cent of Infiniti sales to be electrified as well.

On the autonomous front, the company also wants to shift 1 million ProPilot-equipped vehicles per year by 2022. Automated driving on multi-lane highways is expected to arrive shortly after the plan ends, with a pilot program (no pun intended) set for Japanese roads within 12 months.

Alliance Connected Cloud will be offered in "key markets" by 2022, opening the door for over-the-air updates and more intelligent in-car connected services.

"Our product and technology strategy is dedicated to positioning Nissan to lead the automotive, technology and business evolution. Our efforts are focused on delivering Nissan Intelligent Mobility, encompassing the three core elements of electrification, autonomous drive, connectivity and new mobility services," said Philippe Klein, Nissan chief planning officer.

Along with its electric and autonomous plans, Nissan announced its financial goals for M.O.V.E 2022. The company wants to increase revenue to ¥16.5 trillion ($203.5 billion) by the end of the program, a 30 per cent jump. It also wants to run at an 8 per cent operating margin.
