Ford ‘Mini Bronco’ SUV spied

Pint-sized off-roader spotted wearing Fiesta disguise

The upcoming Ford compact off-roader has been spied for the first time during development testing, wearing a Fiesta body as camouflage.

Announced as part of the company's 2020 product rollout strategy just weeks ago, this mule is believed to be an early prototype for the Blue Oval's upcoming small off-road SUV designed to "win a growing number of people who love getting away and spending time outdoors".

Due to the use of the Fiesta's body as camouflage, it's unclear at this stage what form the new model will take. A clue, however, can be taken from the shadowy designer sketch released with the aforementioned product announcement (below).

Compared to the standard Fiesta hatchback, this development vehicle has a wider track and a longer wheelbase, along with a higher ride height.

Our spy photographers also noticed the vehicle pictured has five wheel bolts, where the standard Fiesta has four – leading some to believe the new model may not have that much in common with the Fiesta despite using one as a disguise.

Further details about this new model are few and far between at this stage – we don't even know if it will replace or be sold alongside the recently-refreshed but rather unloved EcoSport.

The production version is due around 2020, so stay tuned to CarAdvice for all the latest updates over the coming months.
