Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid previewed – Video
Electric-assisted SUV edges closer to launch
The upcoming Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid has been previewed in a new video, showing a fleet of pre-production vehicles going through endurance testing.
In terms of design there's no surprises – it looks like any other new Cayenne – though the clip provides some insight into Porsche's development process.
The vehicles are in South Africa, being put to the test on rough asphalt, traffic-packed city roads, and mounted passes some 3000 metres above sea level.
Oliver Laqua, director of complete vehicle product line (SUV) at Porsche, said the tests are being conducted in a "customer-focused way".
Porsche doesn't detail what will power the Cayenne E-Hybrid, though it will likely share the same 340kW/700Nm hybrid setup as the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid, combining a 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 with an electric motor and battery.
A firm launch date hasn't been set yet, but Porsche says in the press release the Cayenne E-Hybrid is "on the cusp of the market launch", so expect an official reveal and full details to lob in the coming months.
