Pagani Huayra arrives Down Under

Passport = stamped, visa = approved

Pagani has touched down in Melbourne, with the Huayra Roadster becoming the first road-registrable hypercar in Australia.

Priced from a whopping $5.5 million before on-road costs, the news that "just a few" of the 100 Huayra Roadster production slots would be reserved for local buyers was revealed at the opening of a new Pagani showroom on Swan Street in Richmond, Victoria.

The brand will be imported by Zagame Automotive, which is now one of just 24 authorised Pagani dealers worldwide.

"To be awarded Pagani rights for Australia is a privilege," said Bobby Zagame, principal for Zagame Automotive. He was on hand at last night's launch event, alongside Pagani founder, Horacio Pagani.

"When I visited the Pagani factory almost 15 years ago in Italy not long after the company was born, and then drove its first creation, the Zonda, I dreamt back then of one day bringing Pagani to Australia," he continued.

"I just love everything about Pagani. There is a purity yet complexity in the overall design which is so harmonious it almost defies belief."

As for the Roadster? It's the same lightweight creation we covered in February last year, with power from an AMG-sourced 6.0-litre twin-turbo V12 making 562kW and 1000Nm. Grunt is put to the road through a seven-speed automated manual transmission, and an electrically-managed differential on the rear axle.

Weighing in at 1280kg, the Roadster is lighter than the coupe, which tips the scales at 1350kg. Riding on 20-inch front and 21-inch rear wheels wrapped in Pirelli P-Zero Corsa tyres, the car is reportedly capable of reaching 1.8G in the bends.

Like the coupe, it's equipped with clever active aerodynamics that move at speed to ensure the car is always being slammed into the road.
