2018 Mercedes-AMG C43 Coupe and Cabriolet revealed

More power, more tech, revised looks for performance pair

Mercedes-AMG has unveiled its facelifted 'warm' C43 Coupe and Convertible with more technology, mildly tweaked looks and more power.

The two-door semi-skim AMG models have been given the same exterior updates as the regular C-Class range, which means minor changes to the front and rear bumpers, a revised grille and more aerodynamic wheels. An optional AMG Styling Package adds a deeper front splitter, broader side skirts and gloss black elements in the rear bumper.

A 'Carbon Package' is also available, and adds mirrors and a rear spoiler finished in the lightweight weave. The 'Night Package' trades the carbon for gloss black, and lots of it.

The changes are similarly subtle behind the wheel, where the C43 gains the (optional) 12.3-inch digital instrument binnacle rolled out across the wider C-Class range.

AMG Performance seats are optional, and add heating in the coupe and neck-warming 'Airscarf' capability in the cabriolet. Compared to the base C-Class range you get metal sports pedals, red seatbelts and red contrast topstitching on the seats as standard. A fresh AMG sports steering wheel and metal shift paddles are also standard.

Power still comes from a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6, now producing 287kW (+17kW) and 520Nm for a 4.7-second sprint to 100km/h, on the way to an electronically-capped 250km/h top speed.

That grunt is put to the road through a revised 9G automatic, designed to deliver snappier shifts on the way up, and unfurl multiple downshifts when you pull the left-hand paddle. A rear-biased all-wheel drive system remains, designed to deliver good traction when it's wet and a natural, rear-biased feeling when it's dry.
