Lincoln Aviator badge making a comeback

Will it be a rebadged Ford Explorer this time?

Lincoln has teased the return of its Aviator badge, previously applied to a reworked take on the Ford Explorer.

The new car, likely to be another SUV, will be unveiled at the New York motor show, and joins the Navigator and Continental in the revived luxury brand's lineup.

Once the proprietor of Fords with slightly more leather and wood, Lincoln has set about rebuilding itself around the idea of "quiet luxury".

That means you get 30-way adjustable seats, special acoustically-sealed glass and tyres, and suitably chrome-heavy exterior styling in the Continental sedan and Navigator SUV.

It'll be interesting to see how those same cues transition to the Aviator, which is likely to be smaller than either of those cars.

Stay tuned for all the latest from the New York motor show, which kicks off on March 28.
