2018 Mercedes-Maybach Pullman unveiled
Heads of state, celebrities and dictators rejoice!
Mercedes-Maybach has unveiled its latest ultra long-wheelbase limousine, fit for celebrities, heads-of state and despot dictators alike. The facelifted S-Class Pullman follows in the footsteps of its lesser stablemates with small upgrades, both inside and out, designed to deliver an even more luxurious experience.
Like the rest of the S-Class Maybach lineup, the Pullman has gained a new pinstripe grille, inspired by suits and debuted on the Mercedes-Maybach Vision 6 in 2016.
The car rides on classic 10-hole, 20-inch alloy wheels as before – in fact, exterior upgrades are essentially limited to the new nose and a range of two-tone paint finishes.
Power still comes from a twin-turbo 6.0-litre V12 engine, now making 463kW and 1000Nm of torque. Those are big numbers, but the sheer size of the Pullman – it's 6.5 metres long! – means they're only good for a 6.5-second sprint to 100km/h.
Fuel consumption is predictably poor, with a claimed 14.6L/100km figure on the combined cycle.
The upshot of the car's size is rear-passenger space, and lots of it. As is typical of Pullman limousines, there's space for four passengers sitting face-to-face in the rear partition. There's also a VIP option, with two lounge chairs and all the legroom you could ever want.
Regardless of configuration, the passenger compartment is separated from the front with a sliding partition. You wouldn't want your driver overhearing anything, right? Even with the partition raised, a front-view camera and screen allows rear-seat passengers to keep an eye on traffic ahead.
Rear- and front-seat passengers can now listen to separate audio sources, thanks to the '2 cabin sound' system.
In Europe, the Pullman will be priced from "around half a million euro" – equivalent to $800,000 before taxes are taken into account.
Mercedes-Benz Australia has confirmed the Pullman will be available for special order, should anyone want one.
