2019 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 teased

Upcoming performance flagship shows its face

The upcoming Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 has been teased in a single frontal image ahead of its North American launch sometime next year.

Following the initial preview at the Detroit motor show in January, we now get a look at the new GT500's face, which sports a unique grille and front bumper treatment compared to other Mustang models.

Additionally, and obviously, the GT500 wears a Shelby snake badge on its nose, as opposed to the iconic pony symbol that adorns the face of regular Ford Mustangs.

We already know the Shelby GT500 will feature a supercharged V8 with over 700hp (522kW), making it the "most powerful street-legal production Ford ever".

The new performance flagship will also be equipped with "new innovative track technologies [and] performance hardware".

Ford says the Mustang Shelby GT500 is one of 12 new models under the Ford Performance banner to be launched by 2020.

Australia

The GT500 is due to go on sale in North America from 2019, however, Damion Smy, head of product communications for Ford Australia, has ruled out the new variant for our market.

"The recently announced Mustang Shelby GT500 is a US market model. We have no announcements to make regarding this model for Australia," Smy told CarAdvice earlier this year.
