Range Rover Velar SVR spied

Supercharged V8 flagship is well on the way

The anticipated (but not yet confirmed) Range Rover Velar SVR has been spied again, doing rounds at the famed Nurburgring circuit in Germany.

While this prototype looks very similar to the vehicle spotted almost a year ago, the time between sightings hints that the British marque is going ahead with a performance version of its style-focused offering – complete with its signature supercharged V8 engine.

Our spy photographers claim the vehicle makes a heap of noise – in typical Jaguar Land Rover supercharged V8 fashion – while the larger wheels and upgraded brake package hint at more focused running gear.

Expect the Velar SVR to follow a similar avenue to the larger Range Rover Sport SVR, combining a luxurious and comfortable cabin with brutal acceleration and more dynamic handling – the latter aided by adaptive chassis and suspension settings along with the upgraded wheel and tyre package.

A version of the 5.0-litre supercharged V8 seen in the Sport SVR and Jaguar F-Type SVR is believed to be the motor of choice, producing around 423kW like its larger sibling.

Should that prove to be correct, the lighter Velar SVR should be capable of a 0-100km/h sprint approaching the 4.0-second barrier, and a top speed in excess of 250km/h. An eight-speed automatic transmission and configurable four-wheel drive system should feature too.

The Range Rover Velar SVR is expected to be accompanied by a Jaguar F-Pace SVR – which has also been spied testing recently – given the two SUVs share common underpinnings.

It's unclear exactly when either of these new models will be hitting the market, but our guess is the Velar SVR and F-Pace SVR should at least be revealed to the public in the next 12 months.
