Forget lap times, and forget turbo power. The ideal motorsport Porsche is a manual, and it’s naturally aspirated. It needs to be the 911 GT3 with Touring Package.

Having seen one in person just last week, I can safely say the 991.2 911 GT3’s design is the perfect blend of aggression and restraint. Minus the rear wing, it presents a thoroughly modern take on the classic Porsche silhouette.

Although the Sapphire Blue Metallic paint is free, everything else is optional. The adaptive LED headlights with Porsche Dynamic Light System will set you back $5280, and a rear-view camera is worth another $1690.

Behind the wheel, I’ve stumped a terrifying $11,530 for full bucket seats, and another $1190 for the Sport Chrono package. Having the rev counter in red was an $1450 option, while the painted Sport Chrono clock is another $850 hit. Oh, and red seatbelts cost $630. Good thing this is monopoly money.

A Bose Surround sound system might seem heavy and counter-intuitive, but this is a ‘touring’ GT3 so it was given the nod. On the flip side, a fire extinguisher – not free, another $380 – is there for any potential track work

All told, the options on this car are worth $36,770. Not cheap, but they make for the perfect Porsche. Added to the base 911 Touring Package, they make for a car worth: drumroll please… $363,870 before on-roads. Not cheap, but a bargain compared with what’s to come from my (insane) colleagues.

I’m a lover of all things green – if you haven’t noticed already – and when I saw the new 911 GT3 RS revealed a few weeks ago, I couldn’t resist.

Now, while the eye-catching Lizard Green is this model’s hero colour, it’s a $7990 option – tick. Also, instead of the standard bronze wheel colour, I’ve opted for satin black rims with edges painted in matching Lizard Green ($2790).

The Weissach Package is a must – who doesn’t want more carbon-fibre and less weight? – but, I’ve passed on the roll cage so I can put stuff behind the seats, meaning it’s only $34,390 extra rather than $41,990 – bargain hunting at its finest!

Inside, the Weissach Package adds carbon-weave gearshift paddles for the PDK transmission, Weissach branding on the cupholders and headrests, special floor mats and a six-point seat belts – though the images don’t show it, annoyingly.

Other extras include LED headlights with dark lenses and dynamic bending function ($6830), a rear-view camera ($1690), privacy glass ($1290), Sport Chrono package ($1190), ceramic composite brakes ($21,590, jeez), Guards Red instrument dials ($1450), aluminium pedals ($830), and a Bose 12-speaker sound system ($3390).

All up, the options equate to $90,920 on top of the GT3 RS’s $416,500 list price – making for a drive-away price of $543,105 in Victoria.

Good thing I don’t really have that kind of money, because I probably would have spent it on this.

Gee the 911 GT3 is pretty with the Touring Package, but while pretty Porsches have their place, in-your face ones are just… better.

The GT3 RS bulks up with a body bursting at the seams with vents and intakes, and the perfect way to showcase them is a coat of Lizard Green paint (you’re really onto something there, James), a snap at $7990 over a ‘standard’ finish.

Lizard Green is also the right choice for the interior – adding it with leather trim adds another $7490, but that’s just the start.

Applying the nausea-triggering green finish to the climate control and air vents pushes things up by another $4420, and a matching 12 o’clock marker on the steering wheel $590. Starting to sweat a little now.

Aluminium pedals $830, fire extinguisher $380, white faces for the instrument cluster and Sport Chrono dial $2300. Insert expletive here. At least full bucket seats don’t cost more.

On the more serious side, carbon-ceramic brakes will yank you to the tune of $21,590, the Sport Chrono package is $1190 (on a motorsport model that should be included standard, surely?) and a lick of Satin Platinum over the staggered 20- and 21-inch wheels commands another $1190.

Then there’s silly things like carbon mirror caps and window triangles (yup, really) for $3680, LED headlights for $6830, and a rear-view camera for $1690. Throw in a few other minor odds and sods (like a Bose stereo to listen to on the way to the track) and the options on this car tally $64,490.

Can you really put a price on perfection though? Be still my beating wallet.

I told myself I would own a Grand Prix White Honda S2000 before I was 30. I still have a touch over 12 months to make that dream a reality, but until then I’m using it as inspiration for my Porsche 911 GT2 RS.

I chose the GT2 RS because it’s the hero car in Forza Motorsport 7. With a twin-turbo flat-six engine at the rear, it produces a massive 515kW of power in such a lightweight chassis… and it’s the fastest 911 ever!

Let’s start with the exterior. I’m coating my Porsche in the fanciest white I can find. With only eight colour offerings available (without adding a custom lacquer) the only white I can get is simply “White”.

I have opted to keep the wheels stock. A much nicer magnesium option is available, but only as an addition to the Weissach package. I’m on a budget (avocados), so I’ll just paint the wheels satin black for $1390. Bargain!

I’ll need the features that I have on my existing car, so I’ve added a rear-view camera ($1690), privacy glass ($1550), auto-dimming mirrors with integrated rain sensor ($1190), illuminated door sills ($990) fancy floor mats ($1630), aluminium pedals ($830) and BOSE Surround sound system ($3390). All of this has come to a total of… actually I don’t want to know yet.

White cars with a red interior are stunning. Luckily the red Alcantara comes as standard throughout the cabin. The red roof liner may look a little overkill, but I’ll learn to live with it.

That said, I prefer to stay on theme and have the instrument dials and Sport Chrono stop clock in the ‘Guards Red’ option. Whoops – another $2300 gone.

At least there were some savings to be made. I wanted to add a fire extinguisher (because, racecar), but this was not compatible with the sports bucket seats. I saved myself a total of $390, but will most likely get one at Bunnings on the way home from the dealership for $20 – OzBargainer style.

I hope there’s snags, but anyway let’s price her up…. drumroll… $706,446 drive-away. Wait. How many Kia Stingers is that?!
