Genesis G70 to get manual option
...but it won't be coming here.
The upcoming Genesis G70 will get a six-speed manual option with the entry-level 2.0-litre turbo in the United States, but don't expect to see it Down Under.
Earlier this week Car and Driver noticed the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) listed fuel economy figures for all G70 variants – and their findings included 2.0-litre and 3.3-litre engines with either rear- or all-wheel drive.
More interestingly, there was also mention of a six-speed manual model. When asked, Genesis USA confirmed the 2.0-litre G70 would indeed be offered with a six-speed manual.
Compared to the eight-speed automatic, the six-speed manual version of the G70 takes a slight hit in fuel economy – the stick shift claims a combined figure of 22 miles per gallon (10.7L/100km), while the equivalent auto claims 25mpg (9.4L/100km).
The manual will only be offered with rear-wheel drive.
Given the G70 is based on the same platform as the Kia Stinger, it could open the door for a stick-shift version of the Kia liftback.
In the States the G70 joins the Audi A4, BMW 3 Series and Cadillac ATS in offering a manual – note the absence of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class from that list.

Genesis's local division has ruled out a manual variant of the G70, sticking with the auto-only rear-wheel drive line-up that basically mirrors that of the locally-available Kia Stinger range. Shame.
