Aston Martin Valkyrie coming to Australia
And it should be road-legal
UPDATE: Turns out the vehicles sold are allocated to Australia and New Zealand as a combined market, with the current sales allocated to New Zealand. Although, the brand says there is a great deal of interest in the Valkyrie for the Australian market.
Australia is home to a number of hypercars, but most of them can't be driven on the road. The Aston Martin Valkyrie will be an exception to the rule.
Speaking to media at the Geneva motor show, Aston Martin CEO, Andy Palmer, confirmed the Valkyrie will be coming to Australia, and multiple sales have already been made to buyers Down Under.
"Yes. Off the top of my head it's greater than one," Palmer said.
"I had in mind it was around three or four. We're doing both right-hand and left-hand drive, it's going to be seat belt regulations that are the problem for Australia."
Once those hurdles have been overcome, the Valkyrie will be the fastest, most expensive road-legal car on sale in Australia.
An asking price of US$3.2 million ($4.1 million) will make it the equivalent price of three Lamborghini Aventador SV coupes, attracting a luxury car tax figure of just over AUD$1.2 million.
The upcoming Valkyrie is a hybrid electric hypercar co-developed by Aston Martin and Red Bull. It's powered by a 6.5-litre naturally aspirated V12 engine with a KERS hybrid battery system developed by Croatian manufacturer Rimac.
Producing 843kW of power, it's mated to a seven-speed dual clutch gearbox and weighs just 1030kg.
It has a top speed of 402km/h, making it one of the fastest cars on the planet.
