2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvio pricing and specs

Italian marque's first SUV lobs from $65,900

Australian details for the 2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvio range have been announced this week, ahead of a March 20 on-sale date.

Priced from $65,900 before on-road costs, the Stelvio starts around $5000 higher than the Giulia sedan, and will be available with two powertrains at launch – one petrol and one diesel.

Standard equipment on the entry-level 'Stelvio' variant includes 19-inch 10-spoke alloy wheels, a 7.0-inch driver's display, an 8.8-inch infotainment system with satellite navigation, an eight-speaker sound system, leather upholstery, dual-zone climate control, an electric tailgate and bi-xenon headlights.

There's also autonomous-emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, front and rear parking sensors, lane-departure warning, electrically-adjustable front seats and keyless entry.

Options for the base Stelvio are limited to the Veloce Pack ($5000), which adds 19-inch sport alloy wheels, aluminium interior inserts, alloy sports pedals, black roof rails, Koni frequency-selective dampers, heated front seats, heated steering wheel, sports front seats with powered bolsters, red brake calipers, and a sports steering wheel.

The 148kW/330Nm 2.0-litre turbo petrol is the standard powertrain, mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and 'Q4' all-wheel drive as standard. With this engine, the Stelvio dashes from 0-100km/h in 7.2 seconds, on its way to a top speed of 215km/h. Fuel consumption, meanwhile, is rated at 7.0L/100km.

Opting for the 154kW/470Nm 2.2-litre turbo-diesel bumps the entry price up to $67,900, while cutting the 0-100km/h sprint to 6.6 seconds and fuel consumption to 4.8L/100km. The diesel's top speed remains at 215km/h.

At launch, buyers will also have the option of the Stelvio First Edition, priced from $71,900 for the petrol and $73,900 for the diesel – both before on-road costs.

The company says the launch special – which is limited to 200 diesels and 100 petrols – gets over $8000 in additional kit over the standard car.

Extra gear includes the contents of the Veloce Pack, along with a panoramic sunroof, a 14-speaker 900W Harman Kardon premium sound system, and privacy glass for the rear windows. The First Edition is available in five colours – Alfa Red, Alfa White, Vulcano Black, Vesuvio Grey and Stromboli Grey.
