Mercedes-AMG GT ‘4-Door Coupe’ teased again

Geneva reveal for new performance Benz

The Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe has been teased again this week, ahead of an official reveal at the Geneva motor show.

Set to become the new four-door coupe flagship for the German brand, the latest member of the AMG GT family will essentially fill the void left by the outgoing V8-engined CLS – which is now headlined by the AMG 53 hybrid.

No new information about the GT four-door has been given, although it's the first time the company has referred to it as the "4-Door Coupe". We're not sure if that name is final, or whether AMG will run with something catchier in production form.

During a 20-second video clip posted on the company's Facebook page, we get a brief glimpse of several details on the vehicle, including the headlights, tail-lights and some of the badging.

It appears the AMG GT 4-Door will have an even more coupe-like profile than the CLS, though the front and rear will likely resemble its more practical Benz-branded stablemate.

The show car should be finished in blue, with a cream-coloured interior.

Unlike the two-door GT family, which are built on a bespoke platform, the GT 4-Door is believed to be based on the same architecture used by the new E-Class and CLS.

Going by the lack of 'EQ Boost' badging in the teaser clip, it appears the four-door AMG GT will launch with the company's 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 under the bonnet, likely in the same 450kW/850Nm tune as the AMG E63 S.

It's expected the new four-door coupe will eventually get a hybrid-assisted powertrain as previewed by the GT sedan concept, which claimed a power output of "up to 600kW".

For more details, we'll have to wait until March 6.
