McLaren Senna Carbon Theme by MSO revealed
Better looking than standard?
McLaren Special Operations has worked its magic on the Senna, creating the 'Carbon Theme' ahead of next week's Geneva motor show.
According to MSO, the carbon finish you see here took almost 1000 hours to produce. It's made up of 67 parts, offset by Sonar Yellow detailing that, according to the company, took 250 hours to apply.
Coupled with the Laurel Green brake calipers, the yellow detailing is designed to pay homage Ayrton Senna's legendary helmet and, by extension, the Brazilian flag.
The same colours have been scattered throughout the cabin, with yellow contrast stitching on the seats and a yellow strip on the steering wheel. Both driver and passenger seats have a special "S" embroidered in the headrests, designed to match the gloss carbon-fibre end plates on the rear wing and front fenders.
Along with the new carbon-fibre finish, the Senna on show in Geneva will wear a new seven-spoke alloy wheel design made of – you guessed it – carbon-fibre (and aluminium). Each of the centre-lock wheels weighs just 7.5 kilograms without rubber, for a 10-15 per cent reduction in rotating inertia.
McLaren says the new rims make for better acceleration, shorter stopping distances and sharper steering. The wheels will be a dealer-fit option, available in both diamond-cut and shadowy 'Stealth' colouring.
These changes don't come cheap – the Carbon Theme options add a whopping £300,000 ($531,400) to the £750,000 ($1,328,700) list price of the limited-run Senna. McLaren says the price is justified by the fact MSO cars take significantly longer to build than standard cars.
Based on the quoted 1000 hours it takes to create the Carbon Theme finish – or 42 days, accounting for rounding – that's a cool £7143 ($12,650) per day for the MSO additions.
