2018 Mercedes-Benz X350d revealed

Range-topping ute to debut in Geneva

Mercedes-Benz has officially unveiled its range-topping X350d 4MATIC pickup, powered by a 3.0-litre V6 making 190kW and 550Nm.

Those outputs slightly outdo those of the V6 Volkswagen Amarok, which makes 165kW of power and 550Nm of torque in regular driving, or 180kW and 580Nm for a ten-second overboost. Peak torque is available between 1400 and 3200rpm, and peak power comes in at 3400rpm.

As a result, the car will sprint to 100km/h in 7.9 seconds on its way to a 205km/h top speed. With those figures, there's no excuse for being late to the worksite.

The engine will be mated exclusively to a seven-speed automatic transmission, putting to power to the road through a rear-biased (60:40) all-wheel drive system. Switching to 4H locks the car into 50:50 all-wheel drive, and low-range 4L is also available. There's a proper locking rear differential on board as well.

Mercedes says the X350d will ford up to 600mm of water, while offering 202mm of ground clearance at the front and 222mm at the rear. Maximum approach angle is 29 degrees, max departure angle is 24 degrees.

Two trim levels will be available: Power and Progressive. The Progressive comes with 17-inch six-spoke alloy wheels, air vents in chrome, a leather steering wheel, fabric seats and the basic Audio 20 infotainment system, paired with an eight-speaker sound system.

Power-grade cars gain 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, a matte-black dashboard trim piece and leather dash-top trim, leather (electrically adjustable) seats and the Audio 20 infotainment system.

Along with the X350d, Mercedes-Benz will use the Geneva motor show to unveil a range of options for the wider X-Class range, including three new wheel designs, a sports bar and hardtop for the tray and extended underbody protection.

When it arrives in Australia, the V6 ute will sit above the current range-topping X250d Power – which is priced from $64,500 before on-roads in automatic guise.

Australia

The X350d is on track for a mid-year European launch, and should be in Australia by the end of 2018.

Full details for the flagship ute are still to come, though Blake Vincent, PR and communications manager for Mercedes-Benz's local commercial division, told CarAdvice local examples of the V6 X-Class will get the Comand Online navigation system and rear differential lock as standard.

Stay tuned for full pricing and spec details closer to launch.
