2019 BMW 1 Series spied again

New-generation hatchback reveals production lights

The next-generation BMW 1 Series has been spied in the snow, giving us a sneak peak at its production head- and tail-lights.

While the daytime-running light signature is hard to see through the bright LED main beam, the tail-lights have a visible LED signature echoing that of the X2 and X3.

Compared to the prototype spied in December, though, not much else has changed – other than a new set of alloy wheels, which could also potentially be production-specification.

The new 1 Series will be based on the same UKL front-wheel drive architecture as the Mini range, along with the X1, X2 and 2 Series Active Tourer – rear-drive fans, we're weeping with you.

With that in mind, it's likely the next-gen 1er will be offered with a range of three- and four-cylinder turbocharged petrol and diesel engines, and potentially a plug-in hybrid version as well.

It also spells the end of the inline turbo six M140i, meaning the M Performance flagship will likely have a high-output 2.0-litre turbo donk with all-wheel drive.

The new-generation BMW 1 Series appears likely to make its official debut later this year, potentially at the Paris motor show in October. Should that be the case, an Australian introduction would either be very late in 2018 or early in 2019.
