2019 Seat Tarraco leaked

Spanish seven-seat SUV surfaces online

The Seat Tarraco has been leaked on social media this week, giving us an early look at the Spanish brand's upcoming seven-seat crossover.

Posted on MQB-Coding & Retrofit's Facebook page, the leaked images show the Seat's take on the Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace, sporting a more angular face than its German relative – though not much else is drastically different.

Key design changes beyond the unique front-end include different alloy wheels, a thin red strip connecting the tail-lights, and a diffuser-style rear bumper treatment that incorporates faux tailpipes.

However, the overall shape of the Tarraco is very similar to the Tiguan, right down to the prominent shoulder line and even the shape of the tail-lights.

Based on the same elongated version of the Volkswagen Group's MQB platform as the Tiguan Allspace and Skoda Kodiaq, the Seat Tarraco is named after the oldest Roman settlement on the Iberian Peninsula – chosen by the public – continuing the brand's current trend of naming its models after Spanish or Iberian towns.

Key rivals include its aforementioned relatives, along with the likes of the Honda CR-VNissan X-Trail and Hyundai Santa Fe.

Given the family ties, it's very likely the Tarraco will offer a range of turbocharged four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines similar to those in the Tiguan and Kodiaq.

Australia

There are no plans to bring the Seat brand to Australia anytime soon, though our friends in New Zealand do offer the Spanish brand – so the Tarraco could venture down there sometime in the next year.
