Mid-size wagon goes official ahead of Geneva debut
The all-new Volvo V60 has been revealed, sporting an overhauled design, fresh technologies and a range of updated powertrains.
Looking like a mini-me version of the larger V90, the new V60 shares its Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) with the XC60 SUV and the entire range of 90 Series models – which includes the S90, V90 and XC90.
Volvo says the new platform delivers increased interior space and advanced connectivity, in the form of its latest driver-assistance systems and safety technologies.
Measuring 4781mm/1850mm/1427mm (L/W/H), the new V60 is 146mm longer, 16mm narrower and 57mm lower than its predecessor, while the 2872mm wheelbase is 96mm longer than before. Oh, and there's 529L of luggage space, including underfloor storage.
In terms of design, the V60 doesn't stray far from the formula established by its stablemates, essentially adapting the XC60's cues to a wagon body.
The same applies to the interior, which looks identical to the XC60 and 90 Series family. We like the swanky cream leather with grey fabric combo. too.
Also debuting on the V60 is a new T6 Twin Engine plug-in hybrid system. Like the more powerful T8 PHEV, the T6 combines a petrol engine with an electric motor and battery system, though this version is rated at 251kW/590Nm as opposed to the T8's 288kW/640Nm.
Other engine options include the T5 and T6 – the latter confirmed to generate 228kW and 400Nm – along with the 110kW/320Nm D3 and 140kW/400Nm D4 diesels which already feature across the wider Volvo range.
The new V60 is also available with 'Care By Volvo' service, offering access via a monthly subscription rather than full ownership.
Further information about the V60 will be revealed at the Geneva motor show next month.
We're waiting to hear back from Volvo Australia regarding local timing and details for the V60. Stay tuned for an update.
