2018 Porsche 911 GT3 RS unveiled, priced from $416,500

More power, more green for new track special

Porsche has unveiled the new 911 GT3 RS, set to arrive Down Under in the fourth quarter of this year.

Power in the new RS will come from a 4.0-litre naturally-aspirated flat six, making 383kW (up 15kW) and 470Nm (up 10Nm) of torque.

That makes it the most powerful naturally-aspirated production 911 ever built, although forced induction helps the 911 Turbo and GT2 RS win the overall power-figure battle.

Redline is a lofty 9000rpm and the car hits 100km/h in 3.2 seconds, on its way to a 312km/h top speed.

As for the gearbox? Unlike the GT3 there will be no manual RS offered, making a seven-speed PDK transmission the only option. We're ready for a flood of complaints in the comments, so fire away.

From the outside, the massive rear wing and aggressive front fender vents carry over from the outgoing car. Eagle-eyed spotters will recognise mild revisions to the rear bumper, along with 991.2-generation lights and details. Evolution is the name of the game, naturally.

Under the skin, the RS rides on rose-jointed suspension for a more precise feeling than traditional elasto-kinematic bearings. The front wheels are 20-inch lightweight units wrapped in 265/35 tyres, while the rears are 21-inchers wrapped in 325/30 rubber.

It's standard GT3 RS fare behind the wheel, with carbon-fibre bucket seats, lightweight door panels and storage nets and less sound deadening than standard. If that's not enough, the no-cost Clubsport Package adds a roll-cage, fire extinguisher, six-point harnesses and the hardware for a battery disconnect switch.

Still not enough? You'll be needing the Weissach Package, pictured at the top of the article. Porsche is still confirming how much it'll cost, but we know it brings even more carbon-fibre – inside and outside – along with lightweight magnesium wheels. In this, its lightest configuration, the GT3 RS weighs just 1430kg.

Australia

The new GT3 RS will be arriving in Australia during the fourth quarter of 2018, with pricing to start at $416,500 before on-road costs. We're expecting a more detailed specification breakdown closer to launch, so stay tuned.

In the meantime, check out the photos tab for more pictures of the GT3 RS in all its green, winged glory.
