2018 Lexus UX teased, set for Geneva debut

Production luxury SUV ready for a Swiss unveil

Lexus will use the 2018 Geneva motor show to unveil a production version of the UX SUV, almost 18 months after the concept debuted in Paris.

The company describes the UX Concept as a "powerful reinterpretation of the Lexus design signatures", but has provided only one shady teaser for the production car.

As you can probably see, the production car will borrow its 'one-piece' rear light assembly from the concept, albeit in a tamer – and likely more cost effective – form.

The concept's broad hips also appear to have carried over, although whether its origami-creased detailing will survive the leap to showrooms remains to be seen.

Cranking up the exposure on the teaser image reveals the rear will definitely be less dramatic than the show car, although those lights and the diffuser are still eye-catching design elements. It also reveals the UX250h badge, likely to sit alongside a petrol-only offering.

Exactly how much power those setups will make, which wheels they'll drive and how much they'll cost remain to be seen.

When it arrives, the UX will wade into the hotly-contested premium compact SUV segment, where it'll face off with the BMW X1 and X2, Volvo XC40, Audi Q2 and Mercedes-Benz GLA.

Stay tuned for more from the Geneva motor show.
