2019 Seat Tarraco name chosen, car teased

Seven-seat Seat SUV setting sail soon

Seat has teased the upcoming Tarraco, its seven-seat competitor to the Nissan X-Trail and Skoda Kodiaq.

The name was chosen by public vote, and references the oldest Roman settlement on the Iberian Peninsula. It won more than 35 per cent of the vote, beating Avila, Aranda and Alboran for the crown.

Current cars in the Seat lineup are also named after Spanish or Iberian towns, including Ibiza, Leon, Ateca and Arona.

As for the car? It'll be built on the same version of VW's MQB platform as the Tiguan Allspace and Skoda Kodiaq, offering a slightly edgier Spanish take on the seven-seat formula.

It'll be launched before year-end – reports have suggested a Geneva motor show debut – so stay tuned.
