Update (21/2) – Honda Australia has told CarAdvice it will have “some news” regarding an updated HR-V “later in the year”, though couldn’t confirm further details.
The updated 2018 Honda HR-V has been revealed for the Japanese market, sporting a revised look and active safety features as standard.
Key cosmetic changes include a revised front fascia that adopts a prominent chrome bar extending the width of the front to echo the look of recent releases like the Civic and CR-V, revised LED headlights (depending on model), and some new alloy wheel designs.
Known as the Vezel in some overseas markets, the updated HR-V also gets new LED fog-light strips on higher grades, a slightly revised rear bumper, and what appears to be a darker tint on models with LED tail-lights.
Headlining the upgrades, however, is the standard inclusion of the Honda Sensing active safety suite across the range – in Japan, at least.
This means technologies like autonomous-emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and lane-departure warning with lane-keep assist are fitted as standard on all variants – something Honda’s local arm is yet to do on any of its current model lines.
Mild changes have been made to the interior, too. Honda has reshaped the front seats and revised trim elements like the stitching.
There’s also an interesting new two-tone ‘Jazz Brown’ interior colour scheme, while noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) levels are claimed to be improved thanks to more insulating materials.
Japan’s infotainment system is carried over, though it already supported Apple CarPlay and Android Auto – a feature lacking in local models.
Powertrains remain unchanged for the domestic market, offering the choice of a naturally-aspirated 1.5-litre petrol mated to a continuously-variable transmission, or the petrol-electric hybrid teamed with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.
Speaking with CarAdvice, Justin Lacy, public relations product manager for Honda Australia, said the company will have “some news” regarding an HR-V update “later in the year”, though the local division is not in a position to confirm details just yet”.
Last year, the Australian arm confirmed a facelift was coming in “early 2018”, though didn’t give much more on what to expect from the refreshed range. Stay tuned for an update.
