2018 Lexus RX L pricing and specs

$84,700 starting price for seven-seat SUV

Lexus has announced pricing and specs for the seven-seat RX L, with the base Luxury model priced from $84,700 before on-road costs.

Two powertrains will be offered: a 216kW V6 in the RX 350L, and a hybrid setup combining a 193kW V6 petrol engine and a 123kW electric motor in the RX 450hL. Where the petrol is hooked up to an eight-speed automatic gearbox, the hybrid puts power to the wheels through a stepped 'six-speed' continuously-variable transmission.

Both engines will be offered in two grades, starting with the $84,700 RX 350L Luxury and $93,400 RX 450hL Luxury – $3300 more than the two-row model.

Standard equipment includes 10 airbags and Lexus Safety Sense+, which includes pre-collision warnings, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, auto-levelling and high-beam headlamps, blind-spot monitoring, tyre-pressure monitoring and parking sensors.

Luxury-grade cars get leather-accented seats for the first two rows, along with heated and ventilated front seats – 10-way power adjustable for the driver. The second row splits 60/40 and slides on rails, while the third row can be electrically flattened.

Infotainment is handled through an 8.0-inch central screen, while a 12-speaker audio system is standard. Tri-zone (two front, one rear) climate control is also included in the price of admission. Adding the Enhancement Pack ($3500) brings a colour head-up display, moon roof and a smart key card – a credit-card sized key to sit in your wallet.

Outside, you'll be able to spot Luxury-trim cars by their silver 20-inch alloy wheels and... not much else. Both Sport and Sport Luxury look much the same.

Making the jump to the $101,500 RX 350L Sports Luxury or $110,240 RX 450hL Sports Luxury (also $3300 more than the equivalent two-row) adds a 15-speaker Mark Levinson audio system and 12.3-inch infotainment screen, along with 'luxury' 14-way adjustable front seats. The second-row seats are heated, and there are unique 'laser-cut' dashboard trim pieces.

Rear passengers are also treated to manual window-shades in Sports Luxury cars, too.

Keen drivers will notice the adaptive-variable suspension and five-mode drive select system, while nervous parkers will appreciated the Sports Luxury's surround-view monitor.

As for the exterior? Eagle-eyed buyers will notice titanium-coloured wheel inserts, but that's about it. Compared with the two-row RX, the seven-seater has a longer (110mm) rear overhang, pushing total vehicle length to 5.0 metres.
