Opel Corsa EV confirmed for 2020

New-generation light hatch to get all-electric option

Opel has confirmed the next-generation Corsa will be offered with an all-electric powertrain.

In a statement released to European press, the company confirmed a pure-electric hatch will follow the regular Corsa, expected to launch in 2019.

All versions will be built in Zaragoza, Spain – the first PSA Group facility to produce a pure-electric Opel or Vauxhall model.

It's likely the new Corsa will share its underpinnings with the next-generation Peugeot 208, which is also likely to get an electric version in 2019.

The Corsa EV will fill the green-car gap left by the Ampera-e – the European-market Chevrolet Bolt EV – and form part of the company's turnaround plan, which details electrified Opel and Vauxhall model lines by 2024.

Australia

We never got the current-gen Corsa in Australia as a Holden – you can thank the Chevrolet-sourced Barina for that – and it's unlikely PSA would bring it here in the next generation, due to the Peugeot and Citroen brands offering the 208 and C3 respectively.
