Mazda 2 recalled for parking brake fix

14,421 cars affected

Mazda has recalled the 2 sedan and hatch, over concerns about the teeth on the parking brake sector gear.

According to the company, the shape of the teeth on some parking brake sector gears mightn't be to specification.

If the issue occurs, the sector gear and ratchet might suddenly disengage while the parking brake is on, potentially allowing the car to move when parked on a slope.

The affected cars were sold between April 28, 2016 and January 31, 2018. A total of 14,421 cars are included in the recall – a VIN list is attached here.

Mazda will contact owners of the affected vehicles by mail when parts become available. Once contacted, owners will be advised to visit their nearest dealer for a new parking brake lever.
