SWAT cops mistake Honda Integra launch control for AK47 automatic machine gun fire and raid workshop

Angry cop: Don't tell me you don't have a gun, we heard CANNONS going off!

We were sent this video by the witness of an altercation between a dozen heavily-armed police officers with automatic assault rifles and the owner of a (rather loud) supercharged Honda (Acura) Integra DC2.

Owner, Enrique Mendoza states that he was messing around with 'launch control' outside his workshop minutes prior to the encounter:

"I used launch control while putting my car away and the cops thought it was someone firing an ak47 and turned up with guns drawn, they were very good about the situation once they realized it was actually the car"

One of the officers who responded to the call for gunshots commented on our YouTube video and gave his side of the story:

"I was the sergeant with the black Eagles hat on and the rifle slung. We received several call of "shots fired" and that shop is under a bridge, it was Super loud. The initial officer to hear the shots is a 3X combat veteran and thought they were rifle shots.

"Plus we found shot up targets in the woods right next to the shop. Fair enough we were wrong as to what we heard, but imagine if we were right. The very next day we had an officer involved shooting with an active shooter so you just never know what you are walking into."

Another officer seems particularly irate, swearing and accusing the Integra owner of lying.

To be fair though, if you heard what does probably sound remarkably like gunfire from a distance, you're not exactly going to be going over there all meek-like as if you're asking for a bowl of sugar from the neighbours.

It's good to see that after the cops realised their error, there were smiles and apologies going both directions. The big cop says "lo siento", which is "sorry" in Spanish, and shakes the Integra owner's hand straight after he proved the police were incorrect.

When we uploaded this video to facebook, we received over 40,000 comments, many with very different opinions about the way the cops should have handled the situation.

Let us know in the comments what you think, and whether you think they acted appropriately or not.

Thanks to Enrique Mendoza and Viralhog for the clip.
