Mazda, Alpine winners in Festival Automobile International design awards

Vision Coupe, A110 win public vote

The Mazda Vision Coupe and Alpine A110 have taken out awards at the Festival Automobile International awards in Paris, France overnight.

Alpine's compact Porsche Cayman-hunter was voted Most Beautiful Car of 2017 in a public online vote, while the Vision Coupe won Most Beautiful Concept Car of the Year.

This is the second time Mazda has collected an award for its concept cars, having won the same title with its RX-Vision in 2016. Given they're both designed to preview the next-generation of Mazda production, things are looking good for the brand.

Meanwhile, the Alpine A110 represents the return of a storied French brand. Although the design is unmistakably modern, it also harks back to the legendary A110 Berlinette. According to CarAdvice's Rob Margeit, it's a pretty handy steer.

“Reviving such an iconic sports car as the Alpine A110 has been an inspiring challenge, the objective being to bestow it with modern technology and expertise while remaining true to the car’s unique heritage,” said Groupe Renault CEO, Carlos Ghosn.

“We are very proud of the passion the new A110 has generated not only at our Dieppe plant in Normandy [France], where it is made, but also across Groupe Renault. This prize is a tremendous reward for all those who, over a period of five years, put so much energy into bringing this symbol of excellence and French-style elegance back to life."
