2018 Mercedes-Benz A-Class teased ahead of Feb 2 debut

Like a mini-CLS

Mercedes-Benz has offered the best look at its upcoming A-Class yet, previewing its CLS-inspired nose and hatchback silhouette in Facebook teaser videos

The new sedan and hatchback, both of which have been subject to a drawn-out teaser process, will launch on February 2 in Amsterdam.

There isn't much to the first teaser video, but it gives us a good idea as to how the front of the A-Class will look. The headlights have clearly been inspired by the latest CLS with an angular LED signature, while the large grille and low-set air intakes are similar to those featured on the A-Class sedan concept from the Shanghai motor show.

The second provides a brief, detailed look at details around the car, including headlamps and interior fittings.

Under the skin, the new entry-level Mercedes will ride on an updated MFA2 platform, which opens the door for plug-in hybrid and pure-electric powertrains alongside the range of four-cylinder petrol and diesel variants.

Higher up the range, the A45 AMG is expected to be joined by an 'entry-level' A40 AMG positioned similarly to Mercedes-AMG 43 variants of the C- and E-Class.

Behind the wheel, the A-Class will debut the MBUX infotainment system for Mercedes-Benz. Launched at CES in Las Vegas, the new system relies heavily on an intelligent voice assistant, conceived in a similar vein to the Google Assistant or Siri.

Partnerships with Trip Advisor and Yelp open the door for smarter, more relevant points-of-interest in the navigation system, and Mercedes claims the combination of touch, voice and physical controls makes for a safer, more intuitive user experience on the move.

The cabin itself represents a step forward compared to the current model, with materials and design cues borrowed from the A-Class' more expensive stablemates.

Stay tuned for all the latest from the A-Class reveal on February 2.
