Datsun Cross revealed in Indonesia

The Datsun Cross has been revealed in Indonesia this week, becoming the third model introduced by the brand to that market in as many years.

Serving as Datsun's new flagship in the Indonesian market, the Cross is a seven-seat crossover designed for "all lifestyles and a variety of tasks" – according to the company, at least.

Under the bonnet is a 1.2-litre petrol engine available in two tunes – 68hp (51kW) and 78hp (58kW) – while torque remains constant at 104Nm regardless of variant.

Buyers can choose between manual and continuously-variable transmissions (CVT), with the latter featuring in Datsun's line-up for the first time.

Measuring 3995mm long, 1670mm wide and 1560mm tall, the Datsun Cross is physically smaller than a Mazda CX-3, though still manages to fit three rows of seats.

Features includes 200mm of ground clearance, 15-inch alloy wheels with specific tyres said to improve performance and economy, protective body cladding finished in dark metallic grey, faux skid plates for the front, sides and rear, along with automatic projector headlights with LED daytime-running lights.

Other available highlights include a 6.75-inch touchscreen infotainment system, rear parking sensors, and dual front airbags – don't laugh, they still aren't commonplace in developing markets like Indonesia.

The Datsun Cross also comes equipped with vehicle dynamic control (VDC) systems as standard in all grades – including ABS, EBD, traction control and brake-limited-slip differential – which is segment leading in Indonesia.

First deliveries are planned for March, with the Cross to be produced at parent company Nissan's facility in Purwakarta, West Java.
