Cutaway drawings reveal how complex the modern car really is

If you have ever wondered what every component of a modern car looks like underneath all that sheet metal, your questions have been answered.

Two Americans, Beau and Alan Daniels have illustrated dozens of technical car cutaways of a four-door sedan, which are so detailed, they appear real.

The drawings include the more common cutaways of the suspension, electricals, interior and driveline. Others are more fascinating like air-conditioning, airbags, satellite connectivity, sensors, and crumple zones.

Beau and Alan create cutaway, ghosted and phantom illustrations from aviation to medical, ships to maps. They have a strong automotive client base which includes Honda, BMW, Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Kia, Land Rover, Isuzu and many more.

It seems they have a sense of humour too. This is the description attached to the vehicle sensor illustration: "just a diagram showing some of the sensors that keep an eye out for you while you can do something, such as text somebody, shave, put your makeup on, watch a video, anything but pay attention to your driving."

These diagrams will keep you intrigued for quite some time and hopefully will give you a better understanding of how complex a car is.
