Infiniti previews large sedan concept ahead of Detroit reveal

Infiniti has provided a fleeting glimpse of the large sedan concept it plans to unveil at the 2018 Detroit motor show.

We only have the one shot, but there are a few hints as to what we can expect. Alfonso Albaisa, senior vice president of global design, says the concept "heralds a new generation of Infiniti."

"A seamless and stunning new design philosophy demonstrating Infiniti artistry in the new age of autonomy and breakthrough drivetrains. In Detroit, shown alongside Prototype 9, Infiniti aims to showcase a new elegance, one that strikes harmony and simplicity in a complex world," Albaisa said.

Karim Habib, Infiniti executive design director, suggested the car will have a sloping, coupe-like roofline. We'd suggest the car will be a rival for the Lexus LS and Mercedes S-Class, albeit a slightly swoopier take on the theory.

Infiniti's announcement comes just days after reports circulated that the luxury marque is planning a large sedan concept for Detroit - potentially a successor to the 2014 Q80 Inspiration, and the preview of an upcoming production model.

The car will be revealed on January 15 at the 2018 Detroit motor show. Stay tuned to CarAdvice for our coverage.
