2018 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Interior Revealed

Car-like interior includes big brother data logging

Big Brother is coming to cars, with Mercedes-Benz confirming its next-generation Sprinter van will be fitted with a real-time data logging system so managers can keep an eye on their drivers.

The German brand has shown the first images of its third-generation Sprinter van ahead of the new model’s official reveal, showing a range of upscale features in the process.

Some of the latest fittings from the Mercedes-Benz passenger car range are immediately obvious, including turbine-style air vents, and the large freestanding monolith in the centre of the dash which plays host to a large colour display.

As presented, the Sprinter also adds plenty of semi-premium touches including a colour instrument cluster display, push-button start, single-zone climate control, and electrically-adjustable heated front seats.

Other passenger car parts include a column-mounted gear selector for the automatic transmission, electric park brake, and a multi-function steering wheel that looks to be shared with the recently-previewed new A-Class.

Officially Mercedes-Benz is generating interest in Mercedes PRO, the company’s new connectivity suite developed specifically for commercial vehicle users which promises to bring tailored online integration to fleet users no matter their size or industry.

As a part of the so-called Internet of Things, the new Sprinter’s connectivity will allow for live fleet tracking and telematics updates so fleet operators can keep tabs on drivers and vehicles at all times.

Mercedes PRO can keep track of vehicle logging, fuel levels and maintenance requirements, with Mercedes-Benz describing the system as fully scalable for use in situations from large feets right down to smaller-sized operations.

Mercedes also talks about industry-specific developments for the new Sprinter, focussing on the realm of e-commerce, which the German marque sees taking the place of traditional retail in the future.

As such, a “further development stage” for the Sprinter includes a multi-configurable load area to meet the needs of logistics companies, and the inclusion of multi-climate storage to better suit the needs of online grocery providers although Mercedes-Benz hasn’t put a timeline on when those features might appear.

For use as a passenger shuttle, the new Sprinter also promises to be more comfortable, with a high-quality rear cabin fit out integrating features like USB charging points and WiFi connectivity for passengers, with Mercedes PRO connecting drivers to ridesharing services for ease operation.

The 2018 Sprinter is set to make a full, official debut in early 2018.
