More focused tS variant debuts, new infotainment added
Local details for the upgraded 2018 Subaru BRZ range have been announced this week, headlined by a new range-topping 'tS' variant and the introduction of a new infotainment system.
Now starting at $33,990 plus on-road costs for the entry-level BRZ manual, the entire range now comes with the company's third-generation infotainment system, complete with in-built satellite navigation, backed by Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.
Meanwhile, the range is topped by the new BRZ tS (from $39,894), which borrows the name from racier versions of the Japanese coupe in overseas markets and features a number of STI and track-focused bits.
Additional kit includes Sachs suspension, Brembo brakes with red calipers, STI coil springs, a flexible V-shaped bar and draw stiffener, 18-inch black STI alloy wheels, a unique front bumper, black finish for the mirrors and roof-mounted antenna, along with tS and STI exterior badging.
Other highlights include red interior highlights and a tS logo embroidered into the Alcantara seat trim, 'Grand Luxe' suede door trim and dashboard highlight, a unique STI steering wheel with red accents, red seatbelts, and an STI button starter.
For better or for worse - depending on your personal preference - the Australian-market BRZ tS misses out on the big rear wing and extensive body kit of overseas versions of the same name, like the US model revealed in June.
Also unlike overseas models with the tS badge, the Oz-bound BRZ tS doesn't appear to be a limited-edition model.
Subaru's announcement of an updated BRZ range comes shortly after the near-identical Toyota 86 was upgraded last week, with the availability of numerous performance goodies like Brembo brakes and Sachs suspension now available as an option across the range.
The MY18 Subaru BRZ range is on sale now.
