2019 Subaru Ascent teased again

New seven-seat crossover to be revealed on November 28

The upcoming 2019 Subaru Ascent three-row SUV has been teased again, ahead of its debut at the Los Angeles motor show next week.

Pitched as the "first full three-row SUV from Subaru", the Ascent will take on the likes of the Mazda CX-9, Nissan Pathfinder, Toyota Highlander (Kluger) and Volkswagen Atlas - in the US, at least.

Little else was revealed with the new teaser snap other than the seating configuration, which in this case is a 2+2+3 seven-seat layout.

It is expected to bear a strong resemblance to the Ascent concept (above) that previewed it, and measure over five metres long. By comparison, the now-defunct Tribeca measured a little over 4.8 metres long.

We already know, however, that power will come from a new 2.4-litre turbocharged 'boxer' four. Outputs are yet to be detailed, but we reckon they'll be comparable to the current 191kW/350Nm 3.5-litre flat six used in the Liberty and Outback.

The new SUV will be built at the company's Indiana facility in the USA, though it's unclear whether it will also be offered in right-hand drive.

Speaking with CarAdvice earlier this year, Masahiko Inoue, Subaru's project general manager for the product and portfolio division, said: "Now we are focused to the US market and left-hand drive, but for right-hand drive, it depends on the market request. America has big volume".

Considering the growing demand for SUVs in markets like Australia, you'd think the Japanese manufacturer would give it some thought.

For now, stay tuned to CarAdvice for our coverage of the Ascent's reveal at the Los Angeles motor show on November 28.
