Audi A2 Electric on its way

You know times are changing when mainstream manufacturers are heading towards more and more electric or hybrid cars. BMW, Mercedes-Benz and now Audi are all set to create zero-emission luxury vehicles in the forseable future.

What the Audi A2 could potentially look like

Reports flying around today suggest the German company is reviving the A2 badge with an all-new Audi A2 expected to be released by 2014.

Better yet it will be a full-electric vehicle and based on the recently announced Audi A1.

The new Audi A2 will sit between the Audi A3 and A1 with the company's CEO Rupert Stadler saying "there's clearly room for another product and another concept between the A3 and A1".

It's far too early to say if the A2 electric car will make it to Australia (since the original A2 never made it here) but given the push towards zero-emission vehicles it would seem like the perfect introduction.

The A2 will be using a lot of the technology featured in the Audi A1 e-tron vehicle and is no doubt a hint of what the future holds for the brand.

The first-generation Audi A2 never made it to Australia but found more than 175,000 European owners between 1999-2005.
