Chevrolet Bolt SUV revealed

General Motors (GM) has given a first look at its upcoming electric crossover, based on the Chevrolet Bolt.

Mary Barra, CEO for GM, presented at the Barclay's 2017 Global Automotive Conference in New York this week, and cheekily revealed the new model ahead of its market introduction by 2020.

Just a single image was shown, and we can see that the new little electric SUV definitely has its own design identity, though there are similarities between it and the Bolt (below).

Key differences include a much more aggressive face, with slim, angular headlights and vertical fog-lights. It appears wider than the Bolt, and the rear guards are noticeably chunkier.

Like the Bolt, though, the SUV gets a floating roof design, as is the fashion these days for numerous manufacturers.

Reports claim the new crossover is one of two to come before 2020, and that the design draws inspiration from the Chevrolet FNR-X concept (below) that made its debut at this year's Shanghai motor show.

The as-yet unnamed EV will share its platform with the Bolt, and is likely to also retain the base car's 150kW/360Nm electric powertrain and 60kWh lithium-ion battery pack.

Expect the driving range to be around the 300-kilometre mark, too, considering the Bolt claims up to 320km. It's expected the crossover will also be front-wheel drive only.

Stay tuned for more updates.
