Dallara Stradale revealed

298kW featherweight is racing firm's first road car

The Dallara Stradale has been revealed this week, marking the first time the company has produced a road car.

Known for its heavy involvement in motorsport, Dallara Automobili is an Italian company that normally designs and produces race cars - it says on its website that it manufactures up to 200 vehicles per year. It now also produces the Stradale, an 855-kilogram barchetta that focuses purely on driver enjoyment.

It's also hugely customisable, allowing for an array of motorsport-inspired parts to be added, including a T-Frame and a rear wing.

There's also several different options in terms of body style. In base specification, the Stradale has no doors and no windscreen.

Adding the aforementioned T-Frame makes it a targa, while there's also the option two doors that open like seagull wings, making it a coupe. Other options include adjustable suspension.

Powering the featherweight sports car is a 2.3-litre supercharged four-cylinder engine, which the company says is "capable of delivering" 400hp - or 298kW.

A six-speed manual transmission is fitted as standard, though an optional robotised gearbox with paddle shifters is also available.

Performance figures are yet to be detailed, but Dallara does claim the Stradale can achieve lateral forces "beyond 2G".

Keeping the Stradale so light is the extensive use of composite materials in the vehicle's construction, as well as carbon-fibre.

The first example of the Italian sports car was delivered, fittingly, to the company's founder - Giampaolo Dallara. Adding to the momentous occasion was the fact that he received the car on his 80th birthday.

Reports out of Europe claim that just 600 units will be built, with pricing kicking off at a cool 155,000 euros ($241,535).
