2018 Infiniti QX80 detailed ahead of Australian debut

The 2018 Infiniti QX80 has been officially revealed at this week's 2017 Dubai motor show, with an Australian introduction forecast for the first half of 2018.

As reported last week, the refreshed luxury off-roader gets a new exterior look that's a little easier on the eyes, along with new alloy wheel designs (ranging from 20- to 22 inches), new interior materials and trims. There's also a range of driver assistance technologies available for the first time.

Some of these systems include lane-departure assist, adaptive cruise control, autonomous-emergency braking (AEB) with forward-collision warning, blind-spot assist and backup collision intervention.

Infiniti has also added the new Smart Rear View Mirror that recently debuted on the updated Nissan Patrol, which utilises a rear-mounted camera to project real-time 60 frames-per-second video images for when the view is blocked by luggage and/or passengers.

The interior doesn't look to have changed much when comparing the two side-by-side, though the new steering wheel and gearshift are obvious differences.

At the rear different trims seem to be the main difference, though the vehicle on show in Dubai features a limo-style centre console in the rear that deletes the middle seat. Infiniti does say in its press release, however, that the QX80 is available with both seven- and eight-seat configurations - 2-2-3 or 2-3-3.

Depending on the market, the QX80 is offered in both rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive, though all versions come equipped with a seven-speed automatic as standard mated to the sole 298kW/560Nm 5.6-litre V8 petrol engine.

Infiniti claims the 2.6-tonne QX80 can dash from 0-100km/h in 7.5 seconds, on its way to a top speed of 210km/h.

Infiniti's local divison says it expects the updated QX80 to arrive Down Under in the first half of next year. Full pricing and specifications will be revealed closer to the launch.
