The 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 has been revealed overnight, representing a supercharged last hurrah for the iconic American supercar.
At the heart of General Motors' (GM) performance flagship is a supercharged 'LT5' 6.2-litre supercharged V8, which pumps out a massive 563kW (755hp) of power and 969Nm of torque.
For the first time, buyers have the option of an automatic transmission with the ZR1 - an eight-speed unit with paddle shifters - while a seven-speed manual is also offered.
Distinguishing the ZR1 from its lesser brethren is its new front fascia with more aggressive intakes, a carbon-fibre 'halo' bonnet, and more aero add-ons including a fixed rear wing.
Speaking of wings, a standard 'Low Wing' delivers the highest top speed and delivers 70 per cent more downforce than the Corvette Z06's base aero package, while an optional 'High Wing' is two-way-adjustable and offers maximum downforce for the fastest lap times.
The ZR1's High Wing is part of the ZTK Performance Package, which also includes a front splitter with carbon-fibre end caps, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres, along with more focused chassis and Magnetic Ride Control tuning for "greater cornering grip". There's also a company-first downforce-enhancing front underwing.
Like the Corvette Racing C7.R race car, the ZR1's wings are both fitted directly to the chassis.
Also new is the Sebring Orange Design Package, which includes the eye-catching orange exterior paint of the same name, orange brake calipers, orange rocker and splitter accent stripes, orange seatbelts, orange interior stitching and special bronze aluminium interior trim.
Inside, the Corvette ZR1 comes as standard with leather-trimmed competition sports seats with microfibre inserts, carbon-fibre trim on the steering wheel, performance data recorder and a Bose premium sound system. Optionally available are heated and ventilated nappa leather seats.
Pricing is yet to be revealed, though Chevrolet has confirmed the ZR1 will go on sale during the North American spring, or late March.
