Mercedes-AMG G65 Final Edition revealed

The Mercedes-AMG G65 Final Edition has been revealed this week, acting as a special-edition sendoff to the company's V12-powered off-roader.

Limited, fittingly, to just 65 units, the Final Edition starts from an eye-watering €310,233 ($466,436) and features numerous equipment and cosmetic enhancements to make this already-imposing vehicle stand out from your 'regular' G65.

Unique features include 21-inch light-alloy wheels finished in bronze, silver brake calipers and silver AMG Sport trim strips along the sides. Matte-bronze accents also adorn the front bash plate, bumper trims, mirrors, spare wheel cover and grille surround.

Inside, the G65 Final Edition is fitted with the 'designo Exclusive' package which includes black nappa leather with quilted inserts and carbon-fibre-look side bolsters, carbon-fibre trim elements, a nappa leather AMG Performance flat-bottomed steering wheel, along with ventilated front seats.

Under the bonnet is the familiar 6.0-litre twin-turbo V12 engine, pumping out 463kW of power and a massive 1000Nm of torque - the latter available from 2300-4300rpm. Mercedes-AMG claims the big brute can sprint from 0-100km/h in 5.3 seconds on its way to an electronically-limited top speed of 230km/h.

Despite its performance potential, the AMG G65 still maintains impressive off-road credentials with a 600mm fording depth, approach and departure angles of 27 degrees, and a breakover angle of 22 degrees. Additionally, the company says the car has the ability to climb up to 80 per cent gradients.

Australia

Unfortunately for us Aussies, the G65 has only ever been available in left-hand drive - meaning the Final Edition isn't a chance for our market.

However, local buyers can still buy the AMG G63 with its 420kW/760Nm twin-turbo 5.5-litre V8, capable of a 5.4-second sprint from 0-100km/h - not bad for a 2.5-tonne box on wheels.
