McLaren previews track-focussed Ultimate Series supercar

McLaren Automotive has today confirmed the upcoming BP23 'Hyper GT' will be joined by a track-focussed supercar in the company's Ultimate Series line-up.

Sitting alongside the three-seat BP23 in the ultra-exclusive Ultimate Series range, the as-yet unnamed car will be unveiled early in 2018.

Details are predictably scarce at the moment, but we know the car will have three exhaust tips and, although road legal, will sacrifice daily drivability in favour of all-out track performance.

The company is describing its design as “brutal” and “the purest expression yet” of its "form follows function" ethos.

Given the P1 and P1 GTR couldn't be described as 'soft' or 'luxurious', expect the new Ultimate Series flagship to be seriously hardcore.

More details are set to be unveiled before the end of the year, including a name. As with the BP23, it's already sold out.

The new Ultimate Series cars are a part of McLaren Automotive's Track22 business plan. Led by the 720S, the company wants to launch 15 new cars or derivatives by 2022 – at least half of which will feature hybrid technology.
