2018 Audi A7 teased ahead of October 19 reveal

The next-generation 2018 Audi A7 has been teased on social media this week ahead of its 'world premiere' on October 19.

Partially shown in a single shadowy image, the new A7 appears to maintain its coupe-like silhouette, though not much else is given away.

While the finer details are yet to be announced, it's expected that the new A7 will be an evolution of the current model in terms of design, with potential clues lying in leaked scale models that surfaced a fortnight ago (below).

The new A7 will likely ride on a version of the Volkswagen Group's MLB architecture for front- and all-wheel drive vehicles with longitudinal engines, which already serves as the foundation for the A4, A5, A8 and the Q7 SUV.

In terms of engines, the A7 will likely use a range of six- and eight-cylinder turbocharged petrol and diesel engines. Some markets with more stringent emissions regulations, like China, may also get the option of four-cylinder mills too.

Also expect a performance-focused S7 to debut either at the same time or soon after. We've already seen camouflaged prototypes out testing (above), and you can read about the most recent sighting here.

The S7 looks set to be motivated by either the 324kW/550Nm 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 from the Porsche Panamera 4S, though UK magazine Evo suggests it could use a version of the 404kW/770Nm V8 already doing service in the Panamera Turbo. The same engine could also feature in the upcoming Audi S8.
