McLaren MSO R Coupe and Spider revealed

Cashed-up customer commissions powered-up pair

McLaren Special Operations (MSO) has revealed a pair of bespoke vehicles for one cashed-up customer - the MSO R Coupe and MSO R Spider.

Based on the previous generation 'Super Series' family, which includes the 650S and 675LT, the MSO R Coupe and Spider feature an array of unique appointments and upgrades to make sure they stand out from more 'common' versions.

With the exception of the folding roof, both cars are essentially identical. The pair share external, internal and mechanical specifications, including their Liquid Silver exterior paint - though the Coupe is finished in satin, and the Spider has a gloss finish.

Other features include a carbon-fibre central stripe, a twin-element fixed rear wing, front 'dive planes', MSO Visual Carbon Fibre (VCF) components for the front bumper, bonnet, louvered fenders, roof scoop and rear deck, along with Delta Red accents on the front splitter and side skirts.

Both cars also get the same five-spoke alloy wheels - satin black on the Coupe and gloss black on the Spider - and 'MSO R' branding throughout the exterior.

Inside, the seats are finished in bright red Alcantara with black stitching and 'MSO R' embroidered in the headrest, with extended Alcantara trim throughout the cabin.

Meanwhile, the steering wheel sports carbon-fibre trim for the upper and lower sections of the rim, a Delta Red 12 o'clock stripe, gloss black switchgear, and satin black vent mechanisms and carbon-fibre bezels.

Besides the visual changes, the MSO R Coupe and Spider feature a 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 blueprinted to deliver an uprated 688PS (506kW) of power and 700Nm of torque, making it more powerful than both the 650S (478kW) and 675LT (496kW) - which, in our minds at least, makes it the '688R'.

The power bump also comes courtesy of hand-polished heads and exhaust ports, while the aural experience is enhanced by a 'crossover' muffler that increases pipe length and optimises gas flow with titanium end pipes.

Finally, both cars get an MSO R-branded key, bespoke central infotainment and instrument cluster displays, along with a dedication plaque.
