AEB, navigation now standard across updated range

Details of the updated 2018 Toyota RAV4 range have been announced this week, with autonomous emergency braking (AEB) and satellite navigation now standard across the line-up.

The major changes are had in the entry-level GX variant, which now gets the aforementioned AEB technology, along with lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control and automatic high beam as standard.

Other additions include satellite navigation with Toyota Link apps, digital radio, automatic headlights, fog-lights, front and rear parking sensors, along with an upgraded 4.2-inch multifunction driver's display (below).

Despite the healthy amount of equipment upgrades, pricing for the base models only rises between $840 and $900 for the petrol-powered GX variants, though the diesel does get a hefty $2350 increase.

Further up the range, the mid-spec GXL also gets the safety suite as standard, with petrol versions seeing an increase of between $40 and $100. Diesel-powered GXLs are now $1575 dearer as a result.

Additionally, the GXL gains blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert as standard equipment.

Newly available on two-wheel-drive versions of the mid-range model is a leather-accented seat package that incorporates a 10-way power-adjustable driver's seat with two-position memory and front seat heating for $2500.

Finally, the flagship Cruiser remains unchanged for the new model year, though the petrol version does see a price reduction of $910.

Standard kit on the top-spec RAV4 includes 18-inch alloy wheels, leather-accented trim, 11-speaker JBL audio, power moonroof and an electric tailgate.

Engines are carried over, including a 107kW/187Nm 2.0 petrol for two-wheel drive models, a 132kW/233Nm 2.5-litre petrol for all-wheel drive variants, along with the 110kW/340Nm 2.2-litre turbo-diesel with all-wheel drive.

The base petrol and diesel are offered with a six-speed manual in GX trim, while the 2.0-litre petrol is available otherwise with a continuously-variable transmission (CVT). The diesel gets a six-speed automatic in higher grades.

Meanwhile, the 2.5-litre petrol is fitted with a six-speed automatic as standard.
