Polestar teases new car ahead of October 17 reveal

Polestar has begun teasing a new vehicle, which will be unveiled on October 17.

The newly independent marque has been teasing its first solo branded vehicle on Instagram ahead of its launch in a few weeks time.

Polestar has been posting numbered close-up photos of its new car on the social media website, although the individual images don't reveal too much about the new vehicle.

Thankfully members of the Swedespeed forum have pasted the pieces revealed so far into a composite image (above).

Taken together they show a vehicle that owes a lot to the company's close relationship with Volvo. Given the shape of the tail-lights, the new Polestar may be a coupe version of the Volvo S90 sedan.

Reports in the British media had hinted at a high performance plug-in hybrid coupe being Polestar's first go-it-alone model.

In June 2017, Volvo said Polestar would soon become its own “separately-branded electrified global high performance car company” with its own "fabulous portfolio of bespoke products".

The company offered few clues and even fewer details about its plans, with more to be revealed during the northern autumn. Earlier this week, the company posted a simple image of the date October 17 and stating it was "time to put the pieces together".

Last week, Polestar announced that it had reached "the end" on Instagram, presumably referring to its practice of co-branding performance vehicles with Volvo.

Despite severing some links with Volvo, and having its own management team and employees, Polestar “will enjoy specific technological and engineering synergies with Volvo Cars”. This likely means Polestar’s forthcoming vehicles will be based on Volvo-developed platforms.
