Local pricing and specifications for the 2018 Citroen C3 have been announced this week, with the boldly-styled hatchback to start at $22,990 before on-road costs.
Unlike overseas markets, the new C3 will be offered in a standalone highly-specified variant, while customers will be able to choose from an array of exterior colour options to make their C3 their own.
The sole variant offered in Australia will be the C3 Shine, which is fitted with the company's 1.2-litre 'PureTech 110' three-cylinder turbo petrol engine and a six-speed automatic transmission as standard.
Maximum power is rated at 81kW, which comes in at 5500rpm, while peak torque of 205Nm is available at just 1500rpm. Drive is sent exclusively to the front wheels.
Citroen claims the C3 will sprint from 0-100km/h in 10.9 seconds, on its way to a top speed of 188km/h. Fuel use is rated at 4.9L/100km on the combined cycle, aided by idle stop/start technology.
Standard equipment includes 17-inch alloy wheels, LED daytime-running lights, electric windows, a rear spoiler, cloth seat trim, automatic air-conditioning, cruise control, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, privacy glass, automatic headlights and Citroen's signature 'Airbumps' that debuted on the larger C4 Cactus.
Other highlights include a 7.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a rear-view camera with rear parking sensors, and the Safety Pack - which includes lane departure warning, active seatbelt safety system, speed limit recognition and coffee break alert. However, autonomous emergency braking is absent - that's partly the reason the C3 scored a four-star crash rating in a recent round of Euro NCAP testing.
Measuring 3996mm long and 1829mm wide (rear) with the mirrors folded, the C3 is roughly the same length as a Mazda 2, though is a little wider than most light hatchbacks.
Boot space is also competitive for the class too, measuring 300 litres with the second row of seats in place, expanding to 922 litres with the rear bench folded.
Australian buyers will have a choice of nine exterior body colours; New Black, Ruby Red, Almond Green, Soft Sand, Orange Power, Platinum Grey, Aluminium Grey, Cobalt Blue and Polar White. All but Polar White are either premium solid or metallic hues, commanding $290 and $590 extra respectively.
The C3 also offers three contrasting roof options at no extra cost; Opal White, Onyx Black and Sport Red, with the side mirrors finished in matching paint. Body colour is also available.
Finally, two optional extras will be offered locally; the company's new Connected Cam ($600) - which allows drivers to take photos and video of the forward scenery via a camera system mounted behind the rear-view mirror, while also acting as a dash cam in the event of an accident - along with a fixed panoramic glass roof ($600).
Stay tuned for a first local drive of the Citroen C3 in the coming weeks.
